“Knots
is Neal, and maybe you”.
Neal est canadien. “
The Blistering Sun, The Pale Moon, Hahahaha” est son premier et unique disque à ce jour, autoproduit avec l’aide (notamment) d’un autre artiste canadien,
Morgan Greenwood d’
Azeda Booth

. La pochette rappelle celles créées par
Phil Elverum
(
Mount Eerie

et
The Microphones

), c’est volontaire. Musicalement, en revanche, les morceaux de
Knots n’évoquent pas spécifiquement ceux de
Mount Eerie… En tout cas ils me paraissent moins expérimentaux. Fondamentalement,
Neal.

Neal is Canadian. “
The Blistering Sun, The Pale Moon, Hahahaha” is his first and only record to this day, selfproduced with the help of (among others) another Canadian artist,

Knots‘ music, however, doesn’t particularly remind of
Mount Eerie’s… In any case it seems less experimental. Basically,
Neal has composed a beautyful folk album, simple and touching: a simple guitar playing for delicate melodies, a soulful voice, intimate lyrics which everyone can relate to. This recipe does not seem particularly unique, but it can yield a successful and remarkable album. Moreover, while selfproduced often means lo-fi, this is not the case here. Instead, the recording quality is striking because it helps emphasising
Neal’s captivating voice.
